Genre Breakdown

Ballet – A core style of dance and key to all dance training. We use ISTD syllabus for our ballet classes and students work towards their exams. Advanced classes are often free-work based and set by the teacher.

Tap – Dancers who enjoy tap and have progressed to a certain level will continue to take their ISTD tap exams up to the higher grades. A classic style seen in musical theatre and the most rhythmical style of dance.

Tap Rep – An advanced weekly free tap class learning different tap repertoire. For intermediate/ adv level tappers age 14+.

Jazz & Contemporary (Combo) – Dancers start by learning modern technique and then as they get older will explore styles such as jazz, lyrical and contemporary. Our classes include flexibility, travelling, turns, leaps, floor-work, artistry, improv, group work and development of technique and understanding across a variety of dance styles. Dancers will focus more on contemporary styles as they get older and more advanced.

Contemporary Jazz – A professional-style dance class for Int/Adv dancers only. Dancers will take part in a stretch, technique, progressions across the floor, and learn a weekly dance routine which will be performed in small groups. This class develops versatility and is great for audition practice.

BDC Youth (Contemporary) – For dancers (year 11-13) who wish to develop further in pure contemporary dance. Includes improvisation techniques, and creating work for live performance or film. Dancers also develop technique through the Rambert Grades contemporary syllabus.

Acrobatic Arts – Using Acrobatic Arts syllabus, dancers work across conditioning, limbering, flexibility, strength, balance and tumbling exercises to develop acrobatic elements for dance. All our acro classes are only available in addition to ballet/jazz/contemporary, as the syllabus is specifically designed to develop the aesthetic qualities of ballet/jazz. Please bring your own acro mat.

Acro Jazz – A conditioning and tricks tech class using Acrobatic Arts syllabus, helping teen dancers to develop more advanced tricking/flexibility/strength elements to enhance their jazz dance.

Street – Learning a variety hiphop/street techniques, and working towards performances.

Commercial/Heels – Weekly routine-based class developing technique in commercial dance styles and heels technique. Featuring current music and a variety of styles/techniques seen in pop music videos and commercial dance performance. Age 14+
