Ballet – ISTD Syllabus
Graceful and structured dance emphasising technique, posture and expression.
Develops strength and flexibility through classical movements, fostering discipline and artistic expression in children.

At Brooks dancers take their ballet exams from Grade 1 to Grade 6 and following this, their professional exams Intermediate and Advanced 1 which gain them UCAS points.
Modern – Jazz
Energetic and dynamic dance style combining fluid movements with syncopated rhythms. Enhances musicality, agility, and self-expression, making classes engaging and enjoyable for children.
Our Modern classes teach the technique required for all sorts of styles such as musical theatre jazz and lyrical, and when dancers get older, this technique will help them to further explore styles such as contemporary or commercial.
Modern – Lyrical
Fusion of modern and ballet, blending expressive movements with emotional storytelling. Encourages creativity, flexibility, and a strong connection between movement and music in a supportive atmosphere for children.

Our Modern classes combine both Jazz and Lyrical styles.
Acro – Acrobatic Arts
Blend of dance, conditioning and acrobatics promoting strength, flexibility and balance. Children learn balances, dance tricks and flexibility skills in a safe and progressive environment, fostering confidence and body control.

Different to gymnastics or tumbling, dancers at Brooks focus on floor-based exercises, body conditioning and strength to aid smooth transitions – such as walkovers, cartwheel variations, bridges, chest/arm stands and eventually tricks such as flying cartwheels, front aerials and handsprings that are safe to be performed on stage or a hard floor, unlike gymnastic tumbling.
Contemporary
Innovative and fluid dance form emphasising creativity and self-expression. A further abstraction of Ballet and Modern technique that does not conform to any one technique or approach although there are many.

Dancers should train in ballet and modern technique before progressing to contemporary dance in their teens.

Tap
Rhythmic and percussive dance involving intricate footwork and syncopation. Builds coordination, musicality and rhythmic skills. Children enjoy the lively, rhythmic nature of tap dance.
Commercial / Street
High-energy dance incorporating hip-hop and urban styles, as well as commercial jazz dance.
Fosters confidence, individuality, and creativity. Choreography can be intricate or require relaxation and groove, and firmly expresses the musicality or rhythm of the music.
Progressing Ballet Technique
Supplementary programme focusing on strength, flexibility and muscle memory, influenced by pilates. Complements ballet training by using specialised exercises to enhance children's technical skills and overall dance performance.
